Eleven of the UK’s most inspirational trailblazers were named “First Women” at a ceremony in London on 12 June hosted by sports personality and broadcaster Clare Balding.

Joanna Kennedy, Director of Arup and Global Leader of Programme and Project Management, was presented with the First Woman in Engineering award. The judges commended her for her inspiring career and for her work both on major engineering projects and for the wider profession, describing Joanna as a professional engineer in every sense of the word.

The awards were created eight years ago by Real Business and the CBI to recognise pioneering and trailblazing UK women – from finance and the media to engineering and public service – who have opened up opportunities for others and whose achievements are inspiring future generations.
