Peter Bailey’s significant contribution to the sustainable development agenda and executive experience has been recognised with his appointment to the Board of Directors of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), a national organisation leading the sustainable transformation of the built environment.

Peter is a Principal and Trustee Director of Arup Group, and a member of the Australasia Sustainable Development Executive. He was previously Chair and CEO of the Australasia Region.

As Group Director of Sustainable Development, he championed putting sustainability at the firm’s policy heart by aligning the global strategy with the UNSDGs and developing policy and action plans.

With the GBCA, Peter will be involved in promoting sustainable buildings and communities through the Green Star rating system, education programs and advocacy.

I am delighted to be given the opportunity to help the GBCA drive the property industry towards a net zero carbon future and influence policy settings to create liveable, productive, and sustainable cities. ”

GBCA CEO Davina Rooney welcomed Peter to the Board, saying the Council has an ambitious agenda for 2022.

“As a valued, 15-year member of GBCA, Arup has played an important role in the development of Green Star. We have some big tasks to tackle in 2022 – climate action and adaptation, resilience and circular economy, embodied materials and more and we’re thrilled that Peter will bring his experience to the Board and join us on this journey,” Davina said.

There are more than 600 GBCA member organisations active across Australia. Arup collaborates with many on our projects, as like-minded players in the property and community development sector. The GBCA ethos aligns with our position on climate change action and recent commitment to whole lifecycle carbon assessments for new buildings projects.

Arup is a long-standing and active GBCA member: four of our people are participating on GBCA Expert Reference Panels – Wayne Lobo (Building Performance), Alexander Hespe (Energy and Carbon), Ken Fong (People and Wellbeing) and Roger Swinbourne (Precincts).

Roger, Haico Schepers and Alex Rosenthal have been recognised as Green Star Champions for their contributions to delivering places that respond to climate challenges.
