Arup has been reappointed by Gdansk Lech Wałęsa Airport to develop its 2026–2046 Airport Master Plan, continuing a long-term collaboration that has shaped the airport’s strategic growth for more than a decade.
The airport, which served around 7.4 million passengers in 2025, is the third busiest in Poland. As the country’s regional aviation market continues to grow and national infrastructure strategies evolve, the new Master Plan will position the airport for sustainable, demand-led expansion and long-term competitiveness.
Under Polish aviation regulations, airports are expected to update their master plans every five years; this new commission marks the third consecutive Master Plan entrusted to Arup since 2013.
As the airport’s primary strategic document, the Master Plan will guide future investment decisions and long-term development over the next two decades. Capacity analysis, together with coordinated development of terminal, landside, and airside infrastructure, will form the core of this holistic plan. The scope also includes securing the statutory approvals required by the Polish Civil Aviation Authority and relevant ministries.
Since 2013, Arup’s strategic guidance has supported Gdansk Airport’s sustainable expansion while strengthening operational resilience. By aligning infrastructure development with genuine demand, the airport has avoided capacity bottlenecks and maintained scalable, efficient operations, reinforcing its position as one of Poland’s key regional transport hubs.
The appointment follows a direct invitation from the client, reflecting long-term trust and Arup’s proven delivery of previous master plans and related projects. Historically, the airport has progressed Arup’s recommendations directly into detailed design and construction.
Tomasz Kloskowski, Chairman of the Board , Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, said: "Arup has been a trusted strategic partner to Gdansk Airport for over 10 years, helping us translate ambition into a clear, deliverable long-term action. Their deep understanding of our operations, combined with high-quality and actionable master planning, has enabled us to grow sustainably, and strengthen our position as a leading international airport. We look forward to continuing this collaboration as we shape the airport’s long-term future."
