Two Arup-supported projects have been recognised at the ArchSD Award 2025. The awards acknowledge the comprehensive revitalisation of the Tai Po Civic Centre and the study’s demonstration of engineered bamboo as a viable low‑carbon construction material.
Tai Po Civic Centre
Special Award (Architectural Rejuvenation)
Since its opening in September 1985, the Tai Po Civic Centre has been a key cultural landmark for the Tai Po community. Upgrading works commenced in 2021 to enhance functionality, accessibility and cultural services while retaining its role as a community‑focused arts venue. Arup provided acoustics and theatre design, environmental, traffic and fire engineering services, supporting the centre’s transformation into a modern and accessible cultural facility.
The renovation included the expansion of the foyer, modernisation of the 644‑seat auditorium and 130‑seat Black Box Theatre, upgrades to function rooms, and improved accessibility through new passenger and cargo lifts. Emphasis was also placed on public engagement and urban integration, with enhanced landscaping and 24‑hour public access strengthening connectivity with the adjacent Tai Po Arts Centre. The centre officially reopened on 30 December 2025, offering a refreshed and future‑ready venue serving both artists and the wider community.
