Arup has been commissioned by the joint venture of China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong), China State Construction Engineering (Macau) and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Macau branch to provide total design services for Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) East Line south section.

The new project follows our transportation pre-feasibility studies for the LRT East Line. Our scope of services covers architectural, civil, geotechnical, structural, MEP and fire  engineering services during the detailed design stage.

The 7.7km long LRT East Line will connect the Macau Peninsula and Taipa through six new stations, enhancing Macau’s existing public transport network and facilitating community integration. The 4.8km long south section will run through three stations before linking up with the LRT Taipa line at Taipa Ferry Terminal station. The section will include construction of a large-diameter single bore subsea tunnel – a first in Macau and the most technically challenging aspect of the East Line project.

Over the past two decades, Arup has been contributing to a variety of large-scale integrated resorts, strategic planning and infrastructure projects across the city. These include Macau Masterplanning, 4th Macau-Taipa Bridge and LRT Seac Pai Van Line, Hengqin Extension Line and East Line. In recent years, our involvement in cross-boundary projects such as Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and Hengqin New Area urban design has facilitated Macau’s integration into the Greater Bay Area, unlocking opportunities for regional synergy and cooperation.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in Macau, this new win demonstrates our ongoing dedication to transforming Macau in support of its economic diversification. With our design, engineering and consulting expertise, we will continue to improve the connectivity within the city and beyond and drive its quality development.
