Lying on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Chongqing is an important industrial base and the largest inland port in West China. As the focus of China’s ‘Go West’ strategy to develop the western part of the country, Chongqing has become a magnet for foreign investment over the past decade.

Arup is one of the first foreign designers involved in projects in Chongqing. We provided multi-disciplinary engineering and architecture services for a new domestic terminal at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

Our tall building portfolio includes the International Trade and Commerce Centre¸ a mixed-use development comprising the tallest building in West China – at 468m high - with retail spaces, grade-A offices and a five-star hotel.

The firm also won the first prize in an international urban design competition for Chongqing Xiyong Sub-centre, integrating urban design with innovative sustainable design elements.
