Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Today, we are 6,000 strong in the UK, working on local, national and international projects. We are a professional services firm with a focus on the built environment and we work closely and collaboratively with our clients to develop the solutions they need today – and tomorrow. We bring deep expertise in strategy, design, planning and engineering, and our project portfolio ranges from the UK Government’s heat decarbonisation programme, to the design of new cancer treatment centres and playing a central role in engineering a more resilient rail network.

Arup’s business in Belfast has contributed to the regeneration of the region over the last two decades. Our office is home to more than 100 designers, planners and technical advisors working on significant projects across Northern Ireland’s built environment. Our expertise spans highways, rail, healthcare, water and city development, bringing together all our key disciplines to solve our clients’ most complex challenges.

Our work has shaped major projects region-wide, including the transformation of Windsor Park into the National Football Stadium, the A26 dualling upgrade and designing new green infrastructure for Connswater Community Greenway. We have studied the sustainability of the Giants Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and are developing Conservation Management Plans for 16 of Northern Ireland’s special areas of conservation (SAC).

With a deep understanding of Northern Ireland and the people living and working here, we work closely with government departments, local authorities, communities, developers and investors to support sustainable development, collaborating to create a more resilient future for the region.
