Coal Drops Yard – Transforming a disused industrial space into a vibrant shopping destination with high-quality public realm.

Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Today, we are 6,000 strong in the UK, working on local, national and international projects. We are a professional services firm with a focus on the built environment and we work closely and collaboratively with our clients to develop the solutions they need today – and tomorrow. We bring deep expertise in strategy, design, planning and engineering, and our project portfolio ranges from the UK Government’s heat decarbonisation programme, to the design of new cancer treatment centres and playing a central role in engineering a more resilient rail network.

Arup’s business in Bristol has made a major contribution to shaping the city and the West of England region. Our people conceive, plan and engineer many of South West England’s most important new policies and strategic plans, infrastructure projects, and new and renewed buildings.

Our office in Bristol city centre was founded more than 40 years ago and today is home to over 350 engineers, planners, digital experts and specialist technical advisors, focused on areas as diverse as regional and urban economics, organisational change, and remote sensing. Our people work from Bristol on local, national and international projects, ranging from a new bus strategy for the West of England to the design of airports in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

We are also involved in a wide range of infrastructure projects, including the redesign of motorway junctions to improve road safety and the modernisation of the UK’s major rail lines – from the Great Western main line to the South Devon Railway on the south coast of England.
