Sheffield was the first UK office to open outside of London and has become embedded in the regeneration of the city, continuously contributing to the region’s transformation.

Working with Sheffield City Council, Arup is developing a study of the investment potential for local renewable energy technologies. The study will assist Sheffield’s ambitions to be environmentally responsible and aims to demonstrate Sheffield is open for business by highlighting opportunities for development and investment.

The office holds vast experience in education with recent projects including the New Engineering Building at the University of Sheffield – an £80m state-of-the-art building, and the Heart of the Campus at Sheffield Hallam University – a sustainable campus development.

Sheffield’s sustainability team continuously influences the national sustainability agenda and recently produced a report with AUDE ‘Shaping Agendas in Higher Education’ - assessing the impact of changing energy, emissions and adaptation drivers, providing information on issues to HE estates.

Arup’s specialist teams, with many members based in the Sheffield office, have contributed to numerous diverse projects. Fire delivered the fire safety strategy for the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, an immersed tunnel linking Denmark and Germany. Lighting designed the award-winning scheme for City Park, Bradford and the Heslington East campus at the University of York demonstrates the exemplar work undertaken by the Water team, amongst other engineering services.

The award-winning First Direct Arena in Leeds was delivered by Sheffield consultants and engineers, which also showcased Arup’s BIM initiatives to ensure coordination amongst collaborators. The Reid Building at the Glasgow School of Art, opposite the world-renowned Mackintosh Building was also led from Sheffield.
