Dubai International Airport – 15 years of partnership and collaboration.

Arup has built a strong presence in the United Arab Emirates through our offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. We work collaboratively with public authorities, local developers, major multinational clients, as well as some of the world’s most influential architects, to deliver creative and high value technical solutions. We are immensely proud of Arup’s long-standing partnership with Dubai Airports and the part that we have played throughout the airport’s incredible expansion and transformational journey as a key piece of Dubai’s economic engine. In Abu Dhabi, Aldar HQ and Reem Downtown are just a few examples of our holistic ‘total design’ approach.

Since opening , we have been involved in a wide variety of unique projects, from commercial buildings to major transport hubs and unique road design solutions that have helped to shape the regions.

Lighting up the region

Arup’s highly artistic lighting scenarios designs reflect Abu Dhabi’s vibrancy, like at the Yas Marina Hotel, where we designed a programmable lighting system with 5,000 custom-designed light fixtures; or the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, with a design that allowed for animated flow movements, resulting in fluid patterns of light travelling along the bridge.

Innovative projects

The steel diagrid of the Aldar HQ building was the first of its nature in the UAE and showcases Arup’s leading-edge approach to structural. The building also adopted a novel subterranean vacuum waste collection system which transfers the waste directly to a local waste transfer station for recycling and at the time of building, unique in Abu Dhabi.
