London Olympic Aquatic Centre – With its distinctive architecture and focus on legacy use, the Aquatics Centre was designed to be sustainable.
Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Our work addresses every aspect of the built environment, from initial planning and advisory services, through building design and structural engineering. We are a community of collaborators, bringing together over 90 disciplines to help realise our clients’ commercial goals. In the UK we’re at the forefront of developing new transport systems like Crossrail or Heathrow Terminal 5, producing inspiring workplaces like Whitecollar Factory, and helping cities prepare for climate change. From sound investment decisions to innovative bridge designs, clients come to Arup for our creativity and technical excellence.

With a permanent presence since 2000, our team of experts have assisted in many of Northern Irelands most significant building projects, like the National Trust’s award-winning Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre. And in Belfast, we have been a primary player in the design of the city’s urban green infrastructure; like the Connswater Community Greenway project which includes a series of new bridges engineered by Arup linking a network of green spaces which reconnects people and places.
Improving sport's facilities
Our specialists were also involved in the transformation of Windsor Park into the National Football Stadium from concept design through to the refurbishment and replacement of the stadiums stands. The same design team helped to shape the Belfast's new Olympia Leisure Centre, which is integrated within the stadiums West Stand.
Delivering ahead of time
Our work in Northern Ireland also includes the engineering of major highway projects, such as the dualling of the A26 and A8. At the outset, the NI Roads Minister announced that the scheme would be ‘delivered more quickly than any project before’. We successfully achieved an accelerated programme for delivery.
