Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Today, we are 6,000 strong in the UK, working on local, national and international projects. We are a professional services firm with a focus on the built environment and we work closely and collaboratively with our clients to develop the solutions they need today – and tomorrow. We bring deep expertise in strategy, design, planning and engineering, and our project portfolio ranges from the UK Government’s heat decarbonisation programme, to the design of new cancer treatment centres and playing a central role in engineering a more resilient rail network.

Arup’s business in Edinburgh began more than 60 years ago and is now home to more than 150 planners, engineers, digital experts and technical advisors.

Our people work in collaboration with government organisations, local authorities, developers and transport executives to shape major low carbon projects and initiatives that contribute to Scotland’s net zero ambitions. We have advised on many sustainable energy projects, such as the Scottish Hydrogen Assessment for Scottish Government, which sets out the role of hydrogen in decarbonising the global energy system, and we are working alongside SGN gas networks on H100, which will produce a new hydrogen-to-homes heating network in Fife.

We are involved in a wide range of infrastructure project across Scotland, including the world’s longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge, Queensferry Crossing, Waverley Station Masterplan and SEStran Strategic Network - a proposed 600km network of active travel infrastructure. We have also worked on many of Scotland's prominent civic and cultural buildings, including the V&A Dundee.

Our expertise spanning energy, government, healthcare, property and transport allows us to deliver multi-disciplinary solutions to help solve our clients’ most complex sustainability challenges.
