Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Today, we are 6,000 strong in the UK, working on local, national and international projects. We are a professional services firm with a focus on the built environment and we work closely and collaboratively with our clients to develop the solutions they need today – and tomorrow. We bring deep expertise in strategy, design, planning and engineering, and our project portfolio ranges from the UK Government’s heat decarbonisation programme, to the design of new cancer treatment centres and playing a central role in engineering a more resilient rail network.

Since its opening in 2000 , Arup in Liverpool has been involved in key developments like the Liverpool Canal Link and a unique footbridge as part of the “Liverpool One” scheme. We also provided top class laboratory and office space at Liverpool Science Park ic3 and Clock Tower, an award winning mental health facility for Merseycare NHS Trust.
Green thinking
Our office has helped to improve the city’s infrastructure reducing its energy consumption while improving people’s wellbeing. For example, our geotechnical and civil engineers helped to unlock the potential of the Garden Festival Site for Liverpool City Council and our consultants developed a ground breaking approach for The Green Infrastructure Prospectus, demonstrating its potential for innovation and economic growth.
Urban regeneration
We are proud of our contribution to the future shape of the city. Liverpool Waters is a 2 million sq m development with a 30 year plan. One of the first projects is The Lexington, a 35 Storey residential tower which Arup supported utilising our in-depth knowledge of the site history and the outline planning consent to enable a smooth progression through the planning process.
