Coal Drops Yard – Transforming a disused industrial space into a vibrant shopping destination with high-quality public realm.
Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Today, we are 6,000 strong in the UK, working on local, national and international projects. We are a professional services firm with a focus on the built environment and we work closely and collaboratively with our clients to develop the solutions they need today – and tomorrow. We bring deep expertise in strategy, design, planning and engineering, and our project portfolio ranges from the UK Government’s heat decarbonisation programme, to the design of new cancer treatment centres and playing a central role in engineering a more resilient rail network.

Arup’s business in Nottingham has been making a positive contribution to the city and the East Midlands for over 30 years. Our team of more than 90 engineers, planners and digital experts provide multidisciplinary services ranging from structural and mechanical engineering to town planning and specialist technology operations. We work on projects across the built environment to help solve complex real-world challenges including developments to major UK highways and the design of iconic sporting venues such as Derby Arena. Our people contribute to many local and national projects, helping shape the successful delivery of important infrastructure projects.
In many cases, our clients turn to us for new, low-carbon approaches to transform and reuse existing buildings. Our work in this field includes the engineering design for the complete refurbishment and expansion of the George Green Library at the University of Nottingham. Continuing our collaboration with world class universities, we recently designed Cripps health centre, the largest single site health centre in the UK.
