London Olympic Aquatic Centre – With its distinctive architecture and focus on legacy use, the Aquatics Centre was designed to be sustainable.

Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Our work addresses every aspect of the built environment, from initial planning and advisory services, through building design and structural engineering. We are a community of collaborators, bringing together over 90 disciplines to help realise our clients’ commercial goals. In the UK we’re at the forefront of developing new transport systems like Crossrail or Heathrow Terminal 5, producing inspiring workplaces like Whitecollar Factory, and helping cities prepare for climate change. From sound investment decisions to innovative bridge designs, clients come to Arup for our creativity and technical excellence.

Arup has been in Winchester for over thirty years and is one of the main locations for our acoustic consultancy services and theatre consulting for performing arts spaces such as the Berry Theatre and the Nuffield Southampton Theatres.

Developing contemporary teaching facilities

Educators need high performance facilities that are cost-effective to build, run and maintain.  Our multi-disciplinary teams have built up relationships for on-going projects with the universities across the south coast.  We currently provide building engineering and acoustic design services for academic, sports and student accommodation buildings in Southampton, Sussex and Bournemouth as they develop their estates.

Raising the bar in sports

Recently opened Places Leisure Eastleigh is the first of a series of specialist sports building designed by Arup Winchester Building Engineering, Fire and Acoustics.  The leisure centre includes an 8 lane swimming pool and one of the largest sports halls in the south, home to England Netball.  As a result, the team are in the design stages for further specialist sports buildings in Winchester, Southampton and Wokingham.

Improving coastal defences

As part of the framework for flood and coastal erosion risk management across southern England, weare leading the first major project to replace a 4.5km stretch of sea defences at Southsea, Portsmouth. Our design team brings the full range of skills needed for this project including civil, structural and marine engineering as well as landscaping and environmental consultancy.
