Ghaith Tibi is an urban planner and sustainable development advisor with extensive experience in city planning and sustainability advisory projects in the Middle East.

As Arup's Middle East Sustainability Lead, Ghaith works closely with clients and stakeholders in the public and private sector to advise on achieving ambitious sustainable planning and design outcomes that improve the quality of life of communities and promote social equity. Leveraging his deep technical expertise and multidisciplinary background, he brings a strategic perspective to complex urban issues and sets out frameworks that are informed by robust evidence and clear systems thinking.

Some of the key projects that Ghaith has worked on include Aldar Net Zero Plan in Abu Dhabi, the Decarbonisation Roadmap for Dubai Airports, the 2040 Sharjah Strategic Urban Plan, the Expo 2020 Dubai Master Plan, the Reem Downtown Master Plan in Abu Dhabi, and the Madinat Al-Irfan Master Plan in Oman.

Beyond his project work, Ghaith is also active in promoting sustainable urban planning and design principles. He has been a speaker at a number of high-profile regional and international events, including MENA Climate Week 2023 and COP27 – in which he discussed sustainable urban planning on an expert panel in the event’s Blue Zone.

Ghaith also contributes to professional publications that support the world’s transition to a net positive future, such as Cities Alive: Rethinking Cities in Arid Environments and State of Play for Circular Built Environment in Gulf Cooperation Council Countries – which was prepared for the One Planet Network’s Sustainable Buildings and Construction Programme.
