Engineer
Guneet Kohli is a fluid dynamics engineer and climate change projection specialist based in Manchester.
Guneet uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and other modelling techniques to understand fluid flow across a range of projects, including buildings, hydraulic systems, and data centres. As a climate change projection specialist, Guneet pioneers the use of data to develop digital products to accelerate the path to a more sustainable future. This includes a leading-edge climate data tool, which helps projects quantitively understand climate change for any worldwide location. Guneet has also been using her engineering design and climate expertise to develop a tool that quantifies the urban heat island, reducing urban heat risk in cities. She is passionate about sustainable design and recently worked on the Million Cool Roofs Challenge as part of Arup’s Community Engagement projects. Using thermal modelling, Guneet quantified the effect of painting roofs white in Mexico to reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the sun, reducing internal temperatures in homes and increasing comfort.
As a STEM ambassador, she is involved in many of Arup’s other Community Engagement initiatives, working with the Social Mobility Foundation, TeenTech and the Engineering Education Scheme.
In 2022, Guneet was recognised in the Women’s Engineering Society’s Top 50 Women in Engineering Awards.
