John McCarthy leads Arup’s Intelligent Mobility activities in Dublin. He is responsible for helping clients to navigate emerging digital transport challenges and position themselves to deliver user centric sustainable transport solutions. He helps shape conversations on a diverse range of topics including eMobility; intelligent transport systems; mobility as a service; and connected, electric, shared and autonomous vehicles.

Over the past 20 years, John has been involved exciting digital transport projects globally – ranging from creating city level policy to address new transport options to addressing the technical capabilities and considerations linked to testing and deployment of new technologies. Working with the Asian Development Bank, port operators, departments for transport, road safety agencies, highways agencies, transport infrastructure providers, Heathrow Airport, and numerous city authorities, the development of digital solutions that link physical and digital infrastructure capabilities together have been a key part of John’s career.

John is a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) advisory working group on artificial intelligence, a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and is an Executive Director with ITS Ireland.
