Leading our business in Malaysia, Lau has one eye on evolving client needs and another on developing Arup’s capabilities to meet them. He drives Arup’s strategy and commercial performance and leads the way with long-lasting client relationships.

Lau has more than 20 years of experience working with public and private sector clients providing advisory, planning and design leadership on high-profile urban transport and city-shaping developments. Before moving to Asia, he was based in London, successfully delivering projects globally across sectors – from rail and aviation, to commercial, educational and residential.

A rail specialist, Lau has led large multidisciplinary consultant and contractor teams to deliver feasibility studies and designs of more than 50 rail stations and 100km of underground tunnels across the region. His portfolio includes Singapore’s Downtown, Thomson East-Coast and Cross Island Lines, Kuala Lumpur’s Klang Valley MRT Lines 2 and 3, Jakarta’s MRT Line 1, Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line 2, Melbourne Metro and the Auckland City Rail Link.

Lau has also delivered a range of projects across markets globally including a Terminal 5 satellite building for Heathrow Airport, the retractable roof over Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis Club (Wimbledon) in London and the prestigious Abu Dhabi World Trade Centre, as well as signature building designs in the UK, Korea, Paris and Dubai with Foster and Partners, Zaha Hadid Architects, Grimshaw Architects and FOA Architects.
