Nigel is Chief Operating Officer for Arup in the Americas. Prior to this role, Nigel spent the last 10 years as Managing Director of Arup’s New York office, the firm’s largest in the Americas Region. During his tenure, Nigel oversaw the growth of the office to a team of 500 members and over 1000 projects whilst being active with clients and supervising projects across multiple sectors including Arts & Culture, Aviation, Government Buildings, Education, and Property. A mechanical engineer by profession, he has expertise leading complex projects for a wide variety of building types in locations around the world and has an extensive history working with institutional clients. 

Nigel’s extensive experience in managing and designing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a wide range of building types bolsters Arup’s commitment to approaching all projects through a sustainable design lens and working towards net zero emissions across the firm’s entire operations by 2030. Nigel’s leadership has been critical to award-winning buildings such as the Syracuse Center of Excellence and Brown University’s Building for Environmental Research and Teaching.

Nigel joined the firm in 1989 and has lived in the UK, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
