Richard leads Arup's cities, planning and design business, a group of over 1,400 specialists working in over 50 cities across the world, supporting our clients to solve challenges facing cities including population growth, urbanisation, climate change adaptation, health and wellbeing, poverty and economic growth. Our approach is highly integrated, bringing together the right combination of specialists to deliver the outcomes that a city is looking for.

Working at the regional and national scale, we help develop long term strategic plans; at the city scale, where we masterplan new urban districts; at the corridor level where we develop new propositions for transport corridors to unlock growth; and working at a more local level through the planning of new developments and infrastructure including detailed site appraisals and consents.

Richard is an urban and transport planner with 18 years’ experience worked in city government in London and over ten years as a consultant. During his time in the public sector, he was the Managing Director of Planning at Transport for London, responsible for planning and delivery of the long-term transport strategy for London.
