Currently based in San Francisco, I have worked for Arup for over 19 years and truly feel an “international engineer”.  My projects have been on six continents (still looking for that illusive Antarctic skyscraper), and I have lived and worked in three.

My work focusses on engineering analysis in a variety of fields, having worked on bridges, buildings, offshore platforms and really special structures like the Vegas High Roller.

I have a particular interest in seismic and blast engineering. Through this work, I have found many things in common in how structures are designed around the world.  After all, physics is physics.  But there are many differences which relate to culture, geography and economics. These commonalities and differences form the basis of my Perspectives articles.
