Thomas Briault leads Arup’s Energy business across NSW and the ACT and works with both private and public-sector clients all around the world to design integrated solutions to deliver against carbon, climate and environmental requirements.

With 20 years of experience advising on low carbon energy and sustainability energy solutions, he is skilled at leading and directing major complex and business-critical projects to help clients and cities with their energy transition. Thomas brings strategic insight and understanding of the policy and regulatory environment and is a specialist in commercial structuring of projects.

Thomas recently led the successful expansion of Arup’s Southeast Asia energy business where his portfolio of work includes the decarbonisation of energy infrastructure across ASEAN, market modelling for future decarbonisation of the power system in Singapore, work on green electricity import via subsea electrical interconnectors, hydrogen import studies, and a wide range of renewable energy projects across the SEA region.

He has led renewable energy integrated solutions including hydrogen, onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, batteries, district heating and cooling and heat pumps. A major development for the UK, he was the Project Director for a blue hydrogen hub on the Isle of Grain that is capable of replacing 50% of London and the South East of England’s gas supply. He has also been a technical advisor to several UK, European and global energy efficiency funds.

Thomas is a Chartered Engineer and is currently co-chair of the Independent Power Producers Forum (IPPF) Hydrogen Committee.
