Tony Chan

Associate Principal | Cities and Planning – Southeast Asia Leader

Tony Chan is Arup’s Planning Leader for Southeast Asia.

With a background in urban planning and sustainability, he has led large-scale projects across the Asia Pacific including the Eastern Economic Corridor Strategy in Thailand, Indonesia’s new capital city Nusantara, ADB’s Urban Climate Change Resilient Trust Fund across 17 Asian cities and various ecologically and transit-focused masterplans in China. 

His expertise lies in strategising on and delivering multidisciplinary projects in an integrated and resilient manner. This includes developing masterplanning and urban design with associated strategies including sustainability, smart/digital, mobility, energy, water and waste to maximise value, future-proof projects and address natural resource consumption.

Tony has worked with clients in the private sector, international financial institutions and governments of all levels, and is particularly adept at understanding the local political context, assisting government, public and private sector client to develop a strategic sustainable vision, objectives and key performance indicator targets, and finally realising them in the form of design, contextually relevant and implementable policies, statutory plans and instruments.
