COP26 sustainability report

COP26 hosted 120 world leaders alongside almost 40,000 delegates in Glasgow, Scotland. It was the largest international summit the UK had hosted and was held under challenging circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A commitment to sustainable event delivery and emissions reduction was embedded into the planning process from day one. As a minimum, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) set minimum sustainability requirements for hosting a COP including that the event must be carbon neutral.

The report details how COP26 performed against the sustainability governing principles of the event and is intended to be a valuable guide to future host countries and the events industry on sustainability and emissions reduction.

As the sustainability consultant for COP26, Arup supported the UK Government and assisted with authoring this report.
