Global Future Cities Programme Türkiye report

Progress on gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) is lagging behind in a rapidly changing world, a factor that will hamper our collective journey towards long-lasting and sustainable change. Despite widely available best practice guidance, the application of GESI principles to everyday decision-making in transformative, city-shaping projects remains a challenge. Funded by the UK FCDO’s Global Future Cities Programme Türkiye with strategic partners UN-Habitat, Arup was commissioned to develop a report exploring key findings collected from the rollout of five lighthouse urban planning projects in Ankara, Istanbul and Bursa.

Driven by the pledge to Leave No One Behind, the report proposes five inclusive design principles and a twelve-step pathway, enriched with lessons learned to provide a replicable approach to holistic urban transformation.
