A Smarter Toronto Summit briefing paper

Arup prepared a discussion paper for the Smart Toronto Summit in May 2016 organised by the Toronto Region Board of Trade

The paper provides background on the relevance of smart city initiatives to Toronto, shares global examples and poses questions on how the opportunities enabled by smart technology can be applied in Toronto.

These include:

  • Helping to achieve the City of Toronto and other stakeholders’ goals to provide better public services and places

  • Creating more jobs

  • Enhancing citizen representation through digital tools.

The paper also sets out a process that can help the City of Toronto and other stakeholders to create a digital vision and see projects and programmes through their implementation and evaluation phases.
