Unlocking urban energy access and poverty

Addressing the challenge of energy access and poverty in urban areas requires acknowledging the hurdles local governments often encounter.

A new report from Arup and the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCOM) identifies and examines the obstacles that impede local governments in facilitating energy access and addressing energy poverty.

Understanding energy poverty – or lack of access – as a form of deprivation, this study explores the context and political economy that surrounds energy access, as well as what this means for citizens, households, and communities. By exposing these challenges, we can identify solutions to create more secure, sustainable, and affordable energy systems for future generations.
