AsiaWorld-Expo is one of Hong Kong’s largest exhibition facilities and concert venues. As part of the complex, the AsiaWorld-Arena boasts an audience capacity of 14,000, having hosted world-renowned events such as the landmark musical The Lion King and concerts for global superstars such as Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber.

As part of the venue’s mammoth facility upgrade project, we were appointed to review the acoustic set-up for the Arena. We focused on addressing the parallel walls, a rear wall far away from the stage as well as low-frequency sounds.
We then performed a detailed analysis through 3D modelling of the space and the simulation of acoustic enhancement works. Sound absorptive panels were proposed at key locations to absorb the excessive sound reflections and lower the reverberation time of the Arena.
As a result, the acoustic performance of the venue has been improved. The first show after the works received positive feedback from the audiences and news outlets, together with critical acclaim from individuals in the acoustics, AV and sound industry.
