Multipurpose design

Designed to operate in a wide range of modes, Arup’s engineering expertise has allowed the operator the flexibility to accommodate different configurations of spectators and events, from rock concerts and shows through sports ranging from handball to ice hockey.

Arup´s specialist venues team developed the facilities requirements as part of the initial feasibility and financing stage.

The delivery of the project was subsequently won via an international design competition, with Arup responsible for taking the technical design forward from concept through detailed design to site supervision for several significant elements, including structural engineering, acoustics and fire engineering. Arup also provided specialist services to deal with technical challenges, such as assessing crowd movements and evacuation through the use of pedestrian modelling and Arup’s bespoke pedestrian simulation software, MassMotion.

Through delivering a truly multidisciplinary engineering design, Arup has created a multipurpose arena which enhances the cultural richness of Copenhagen.
