Casa Atlantica, Rio de Janeiro

An integrated solution for the structure and complex geometric façade.

Arup is working with the office of renowned architect Zaha Hadid on the Casa Atlântica project. The project is being designed as a luxury residential building in Copacabana. The apartments will have large balconies with sea views, with the penthouse containing a spa, cinema, and swimming pool.

Casa Atlântica will have 5,500m² of built area with 12 floors and a total height of approximately 40m. It will be built in place of the former "Casa das Pedras," the last residence on Atlantic Avenue.

Working with Mello Affonso Engineering and the executive architect, Insight Architects, Arup developed the conceptual design for the structure, facades, and building installations, in addition to construction documents for structures and facades. Our team has worked to deliver a project with integrated engineering and architecture, taking into account the architectural challenges of the building and the local law requirements.

Expressive architecture

The expressive architecture of Casa Atlântica features a curved, complex, geometric façade and a large cantilevered balcony area overlooking Copacabana Beach. A post-tensioned concrete structure was designed to meet the demands of this challenging building. The curved façade is formed with modular light-weight concrete panels and connected to the structure with a light steel subframe.
