When our Arup team in Frankfurt moved to a bigger HQ, our interdisciplinary team of experts for workplace strategies developed a spatial concept tailored to employees and their well-being. The holistic design of the space was important to create a working environment which would encourage a comfortable working atmosphere, productivity, creativity and collaboration.
Offering a variety of working environments
In the newly constructed office areas, a sleek working environment is achieved through high-quality surfaces and atmospheric colour concepts. In addition to state-of-the-art workstations, there are quiet areas, project team spaces, as well as open and enclosed meeting areas with virtual reality equipment. This allows employees to choose the most suitable workplaces according to their needs. The use of laptops by all staff, and other digital technologies such as VoIP (voice over IP), enable flexible and activity-based work.
We placed special emphasis on the design of the employees’ lounge: next to a green café with a communal lunch table, it offers a variety of seating arrangements for informal get-togethers.
Proactive change management
During the development of the work spaces, we actively involved our employees in the change management process through surveys, workshops and working groups. We supported the employees from planning through implementation and operation to make the transition to the new concept as seamless and efficient as possible. The different needs and wants were identified in advance and integrated into the new concepts.
WELL Building Standard Certification
Our Frankfurt office aims to achieve one of the first WELL Building Standard Certification for office spaces in Germany. The WELL Building Standard of the International WELL Building Institute is the world’s first building certification that focuses exclusively on human health and well-being. Criteria from seven categories are considered for holistic planning: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
