Ex Mercati Generali Redevelopment, Rome

Structural design of the buildings included in the Ex Mercati Generali redevelopment in Rome.

Arup was appointed for the structural design of the new-build, high-impact buildings included in the Ex Mercati Generali redevelopment in Rome.

After winning the competition at the end of 2004 with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), with local architects Moauro and Capocaccia and Giuseppe Amaro as fire consultant, Arup designed the structures for a new entertainment area aimed at youth culture in Rome.

The 82,000 m² scheme comprises new retail units, restaurants, theatres, leisure facilities and the refurbishment of existing buildings.

Offices, a spa, a gym, a supermarket and a multi-storey car-park will be also part of the development.

Arup was responsible for the structural engineering design of the new structures and acoustic consultancy services.
