New Development Areas in Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Development addresses long-term housing demand in the next 20 to 30 years.

This new town development, in the North East Territories of Hong Kong, is one of the ten major projects announced by the chief executive in the 2007-08 policy address. It involves the planning and preliminary design for three new development areas (NDAs) – the “three-in-one” scheme. The three NDAs are Kwu Tung North, Fanling North and Ping Che/Ta Kwu Ling.

The NDAs cover a total area of 850ha and were proposed to accommodate a population of approximately 180,000 and to provide more than 20,800 new job opportunities after full development. The development is intended to address long-term housing demand and to provide employment within the next 20 to 30 years. The NDAs will be developed for multiple purposes, including the provision of land for housing, education and community facilities, improvement of the rural environment, better protection of resources of high conservation value and timely development of land for special industries with clean industrial processes.
