The regeneration project along Shanghai’s North Bund involves the development of 12 office buildings, 1 retail building and associated basements for retail and car parking.
Arup played a key role as the building sustainability, façade and MEP consultants throughout all stages of the development, from design to construction and management. Our focus was on embedding as many green strategies as feasible within the design, ensuring they can be achieved during the construction process.Designed as a global sustainable landmark, the project provides boat slips for yachts and supports a central submerged HVAC plant and pump room that uses river water for heat rejection, improving micro climate quality for the surrounding plaza and buildings.

Global green certification achieved
The development has achieved all three major green certification labels: US LEED Gold, UK BREEAM (Outstanding for building No. 1 and Excellent for the rest) and China Green Building 3-Star Label (highest rating) for every building.
It won the Silver Award of Best Urban Regeneration Project at 2015 MIPIM Asia Award and Sustainable Design Award and a Merit for Urban Design by American Institute of Architects Hong Kong Chapter.
