KMMA (Royal Museum for Central Africa), Tervuren

Upgrading a historic museum to 21st century standards

The infrastructure and the area surrounding the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium, will be upgraded to 21st century standards.

The project encompasses modernisation, restoration and change. Arup is responsible for the stability study.

Most of the existing building, dating from 1910, will be preserved to house permanent exhibition areas. A new building and underpass will house the reception area and an underpass will link it with the existing building. The new build area will include a restaurant, shop and temporary exhibition area.

An updated museum with optimal public facilities will be created, making the Royal Musuem for Central Africa a dynamic, attractive, world-class museum.
