Peru’s capital city, Lima, was chosen to host the Pan and Parapan American Games in 2019, bringing together thousands of athletes from North and South America. It was the first time Peru hosted an event of this size.

Lima needed to prepare 37 competition venues – an opportunity to transform its sports infrastructure and governance structures for the future.

Arup provided technical design assurance for 14 new sports venues and the Athletes’ Village.

Our team led  the operational planning and overlay design for all the competition and non-competition venues.

We also delivered technical systems and a transparent procurement process and contracting strategy within a challenging time frame.

As the first time Peru delivered an event of this size, the Games presented an opportunity to accelerate Lima’s development and change attitudes for the future.

Arup led the transformation of sports infrastructure and governance structures through the delivery of a transparent procurement process and contracting strategy.

We took a collaborative approach to the project and brought together professionals with a breadth of specialist skills. Explore how we helped bring this major sporting event to life.

As a team, we demonstrated to the world that in Latin America we can be a referent of efficient organization and execution, and with this dedication, we returned the confidence to the people of Peru to undertake great and new challenges as a country.
