Study of land transport infrastructure requirements to accommodate growth at Moscow largest airports.

Moscow has long been a gateway between the east and west – and its three thriving airports, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo anticipate record passenger growth through to 2030.

This  anticipated passenger growth will add significant strain to the already under-capacity city and regional land and air transport infrastructure.

Accommodating predicted growth is likely to require significant investment and a more integrated planning and management model for the Moscow Aviation Hub (MAH).

In 2013 Arup was engaged by Vegas Lex, the noted Russian law firm (Consortium Leaders) to lead and inform the land access elements of the MAH project. Our services included land passenger traffic and passenger forecasting on the basis of anticipated airport passenger and freight growth, capacity analysis of existing and planned road and rail infrastructure and determination of required infrastructure enhancements as well as their most suitable sequence of implementation.

Обслуживание прогнозируемого возросшего числа пассажиров, скорее всего, потребует серьезных инвестиций и разработки для Московского авиационного узла (МАУ) более комплексного планирования и модели управления. We undertook a comprehensive transport study at regional scale that resulted into a clear set of recommendations on the development of land access infrastructure to rapidly growing Moscow airports.

Our key services provided included the analysis of the current demand and capacity on the highway and railway networks, forecasting and assignment of land transport demand, transport impact assessment and strategic proposals to improve airport railway and highway access.
