Museu do Amanha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This new museum uses technology as a support for art and science

The Museu do Amanhã opened in December 2015 and is located in the Port Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

Designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and inspired by the bromeliads of the Botanical Garden, the Museu do Amanhã is surrounded by reflecting pools, a garden, bike paths, and a recreational area.

At the Museu do Amanhã the audience will experience the concept of an experiential museum with the content displayed in a sensory and interactive way. It uses technology as a support for art and science, the building has solar spines that move along the skylight, designed to adapt to changing environmental conditions. The construction of the Museu do Amanhã is part of the Porto Maravilha urban project which aims to revitalise Rio’s downtown.
