Nortel Networks intended to develop a campus and corporate headquarter providing grade A office accommodation and R&D laboratory facilities at the Zhongguancun Science & Technology Park in Beijing. As a global leader in communications, they required the facility to be compliant with international standards as well as local statutory requirements.
The development comprised of a nine-storey office tower and four of the eight four-storey R&D and office facilities interconnected to a covered galleria with a total gross floor area of 76,000 m² on a land area of 55,000 m².
Arup was appointed project manager for the Phase I & II development, from project inception to handover including move management of over 1,500 staff over seven weekends.
