Faced with increasing demand for robust IT infrastructure in Southeast Asia, Japan-based NTT Global Data Centers aimed to establish a cutting-edge data centre in Ho Chi Minh City. This facility was envisioned to meet global Tier III+ standards for data centre design and operation, reflecting NTT's commitment to reliability, security, and efficiency.

Following the successful completion of site due diligence and masterplanning, Arup was commissioned to further provide multidisciplinary services for the data centre facility. Our role included MEP design, fire life safety, and acoustic engineering across multiple Arup teams from Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, and Singapore. We focused on creating a data centre that adheres to the rigorous Tier III+ standards, incorporating resilient infrastructure with advanced cooling and power management systems to ensure operational continuity and energy efficiency. The facility also features innovative architectural designs to integrate seamlessly with the urban landscape.

The NTT Data Centre project in Ho Chi Minh City is a pivotal development in Vietnam's digital landscape. It not only enhances the region's IT infrastructure capabilities, including cloud services, server collocation, and advanced data security, but also sets a new standard for data centre construction and operation in Southeast Asia. By achieving Tier III+ certification, the data centre ensures maximum uptime and reliability, crucial for businesses that depend on continuous digital operations. This project demonstrates Arup's expertise in delivering technically complex projects that meet stringent global standards, driving forward the technological advancement and economic growth of Ho Chi Minh City.

A strategic digital stage for NTT in Southern Vietnam

The 5-storey data centre, located on a 10ha land in Saigon Hi-tech Park, is fully equipped with a total client IT capacity of 6MW across 3,100m2 of server rooms, equivalent to 1,200 racks. The building was designed with the hyperscale-ready concept including 5,000m2 of IT space, office areas, and IT vaults.

Scheduled for full operation by early 2026, this cutting-edge facility is poised deliver high-quality data centre services such as server collocation, remote support management, and cloud services. Additionally, the data centre's construction and operation are expected to create numerous jobs and attract significant IT business investments, aligning with the government's goals to transform Ho Chi Minh City into a major Asian technological and economic hub.

Energy efficient design

To improve energy efficiency with power usage effectiveness value below 2KW/m2, the facility incorporates a redundant water-cooled system, CRAH units in the suites and technical rooms, and hot aisle containment to support high densities and maximise efficiencies.

With excellent communication facilities, disaster response measures and a robust security system, the data centre ensures unwavering stability and high availability of services. These technical solutions not only ensure the data centre's operational excellence and its environmental compliance to meet global Tier III standards but also reflect Arup's commitment to sustainable design practices.
