Victoria Park Drive and the adjacent rail, pedestrian and bridge infrastructure is being modified to accommodate the new Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct to be constructed on the Burswood Peninsula.
Transport infrastructure and solutions around the new Perth Stadium have been designed to facilitate the movement of up to 50,000 people within an hour of an event finishing, or 83 per cent of a capacity crowd, moving people quickly and safely, while reducing the impacts on nearby residential and environmental areas.
Specifically, the Victoria Park Drive modification expanded existing road and bridge network to enable new railway lines to be installed on the Armadale-Perth line to service the new Stadium. This will ensure road users are provided with safe and efficient access to and from facilities on the Burswood Peninsula and the adjacent Belmont Park Racecourse.
Arup was the lead consultant for road design, bridge design and construction support for this design and construct project.
The modification works included:

Approximately 250m of road widening and upgrade of the existing Victoria Park Drive

Widening and installation of additional bridge spans on the existing road bridge over the Armadale rail line

Construction of a new bridge immediately north of the existing structure to accommodate an additional rail line

Extension of the existing footbridge to facilitate the construction of additional rail lines and platforms

Construction of a new pedestrian underpass under Victoria Park Drive to link the new railway station to the new Perth Stadium.
