In a country covered in snow for up to six months of the year, it may be surprising that golf is a sport fast growing in popularity.
Arup was approached to help design one of the very first world class golf projects in Russia.
Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and surrounded by important historic estates, the Pestovo Golf and Yacht Club is a new residential golf complex located 38km from Moscow.
Designed and built to the highest specifications, the challenging 18-hole course stretches 6,487m (7,094yd) and is suitable for high level tournaments and events.
We provided the civil and structural working engineering design for the golf course and surrounding area, with design of the general earthworks, as well as providing expert advice on the construction of the lake - with particular regard to stability and permeability.
Working with Dave Thomas Ltd (international golf course design firm) we also developed the modelling and shaping of the course, along with the green, tee and bunker construction and seedbed preparation.
Drainage and irrigation were also important aspects of the project, as Arup and Dave Thomas Ltd sought to provide a challenging course whilst using the natural advantages of the terrain.
