Arup was contracted to develop a real estate feasibility study masterplan for an area close to the Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro.
The project covers an area of approximately 20 hectares and the main access to the airport. The premise of the programme is the development of multifunctional projects and businesses anchored to the airport such as retail, services, commercial, residential and hotels.
Our work started with identifying opportunities and challenges for the implementation of the masterplan according to the economical, physical, environmental, and legal aspects.
The site access conditions were also analysed, including the road infrastructure, public transportation, and future urban mobility projects.
In total, Arup established masterplan guidelines for buildings’ volumes and densities, open spaces, land use, mobility and access, and visual connections, as well as defining the land occupation concepts.
