St Antonius Footbridge, Leverkusen

Bridge design for State Garden Show of North Rhine-Westphalia

In 2005, a former landfill site in Leverkusen was restored to its natural state to be used for the State Garden Show of North Rhine-Westphalia.

As the area is divided into two sections by the heavily motorised Rheinallee, a connection became necessary. We have been appointed to provide bridge and structural engineering services of the St. Antonius footbridge, which connects both parts of the new park.

The steel bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a tower made of welded circular tubes and a reinforced concrete deck. At a height of six metres the 175m long footbridge offers an unobstructed view of the River Rhine.
