Located in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, St. Francis Shangri-la Place stands as one of the tallest residential high-rises in the Philippines. It features two 60-floor towers, each reaching 217m and together providing 1,200 units.

Given its proximity to an active seismic fault and its location in a region prone to strong typhoons, it is crucial to ensure that these slender buildings have adequate strength to resist wind and earthquakes while also providing sufficient occupant comfort by limiting sway.

Arup provided civil and structural engineering services for the project. We introduced the patented damped-outrigger system, marking the world’s first application of such technology in high-rise buildings.

Each tower is equipped with 16 dampers, totalling 32 for the entire development. This innovative solution not only enhances the stability of the buildings but also reduced construction costs by up to $10M and increased net floor, thereby boosting the potential for higher income.
