Traceline lighting system: miniature system reduces environmental impact

Established in 1957, Reggiani is a respected international benchmark in the lighting industry. The family-owned company provides customers with cutting-edge luminaire products using an open, collaborative and problem-solving approach.

Their 60 year journey has resulted in widespread distribution in 80 Countries with offices in Italy, USA, UK, China, France and Russia cover an area of 110,000 m2, including areas devoted to production, offices, showrooms and warehouses.

As part of an open exchange with the architecture and design community, Reggiani approached Arup to re-imagine how linear light could enhance the architectural environment and the people who experience it. Arup conducted in-depth research on the different interior environments we encounter and how linear light could enhance them. Arup conducted Stakeholder workshops providing insight on the future requirements of linear lighting from performance, sustainability and flexibility perspectives.

Project Summary

7 profiles allow a multitude of different light combinations and mountings

20mmminiature profiles

The team developed design concepts, virtual and physical modelling and detailed engineering that resulted in a flexible system of miniature linear profiles and components. State of the art low-energy LED and driver arrangements were combined with click in optics, track and spot-lights to allow a multitude of mountings, light transmissions and effects that allow people to better experience the journey through a building interior.

The collaboration resulted is the most comprehensive linear lighting system available, allowing design freedom.

Our exciting collaboration with Arup provided invaluable strategic research, product design and lighting application expertise from a truly multi-disciplinary team. The outcome is Traceline, perhaps the most comprehensive, adaptable and advanced linear lighting systems available today. ” Matteo Regiani Reggiani Lighting
