Restoration of the natural character of rivers to improve the quality of life.

Arup conducted a feasibility study for the restoration of the natural character of the Raba river, Krzczonowka and Trzebunka streams and proposed innovative ways to reverse the degradation of the Raba river valley, to restore the natural continuity of Krzczonowka and Trzebunka streams, and to revitalize and protect the floodplains.

The natural character of the Raba river, between Lubien and Stroza, has been regulated and modified by development of the banks, floodplains and dams at its tributaries (Trzebunka and Krzczonowka streams). These modifications caused deterioration of in-stream storage capacity of the river and damages to the environment of fish, manifested by high water temperatures in the summer and impeded access of protected fish to spawning grounds in tributaries of the Raba River.
