Carbon capture solutions
Arup offers technical and economic design and risk management for companies around the world deploying carbon capture solutions at their facilities.
We support developers in implementing CCS at leading UK industrial hubs such as Humber and Teeside. By combining technical and commercial expertise, project management capabilities, and regulatory understanding, we are delivering industrial capture plant design, planning and asset integration.
We also work with public entities, corporate clients, and investors to develop robust strategies and business plans to navigate this complex market and capitalise on the opportunities presented by the transition to net zero emissions. In the deal cycle, we provide finance structuring advice and due diligence by experienced, commercially astute engineers and business professionals.
Direct air capture (DAC) technologies are developing fast and remain the only means of extracting historical emissions from the atmosphere at scale. Arup has investigated feasibility at scale, including site selection investigation, weather dependencies, technology types and investment models.
The Northern Way brings together partners across the north of England to work together to improve the economic performance of the region and rebalance the UK's economy. The organisation's innovation programme is particularly focused on making the most of the opportunities offered by innovation in emerging markets and technologies.
Arup deployed a team to consider the economic potential and business opportunities for firms in the north of England to develop supply chain capabilities in carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Drawing upon Arup’s expertise in economics and energy, and collaborating with the Centre for Process Industries, the work examined the physical assets in the region and the industrial base, technical challenges and global developments in CCS.
The findings were well received by Yorkshire Forward, the North West Development Agency and One NorthEast and have realised investment opportunities within the Northern Way Innovation Programme.
The project suggests that there is a potential for a £26m research and development programme, including industry contributions of around £13m, to grow supply chain expertise in CCS technologies.

Carbon capture, utilisation and storage
Carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) will be a key part of how countries achieve net zero. With more than 15 years of experience of CCUS development. Our work involves the removal of carbon dioxide from hydrocarbon combustion, industrial processes or through negative emission capture followed by storage and transport.
