Arup environmental services engineer, Yewande Akinola, was named Young Woman Engineer of the Year at the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology Awards 2012.

The accolade was awarded to the woman that represented the very best of the engineering profession. The judges were won over by Yewande’s ability to communicate her enthusiasm for the industry and were impressed with her ability to take ideas from inception to realisation.

The IET’s Young Woman Engineer of the Year award honours the leading female engineers under the age of 30 working in the UK today. The award is designed to recognise a young woman who has firmly established herself as an energetic and technically excellent professional, inspiring others in the process.

This year, Yewande was also honoured with the Exceptional Achiever award at the 2012 Young BME Engineer of the Year Awards and has been selected to judge the winning trophy for the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering - alongside Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of the Tate, and Ian Blatchford, Director of the Science Museum Group.
